The current election campaign in Moldova was unprecedentedly dirty before the parliamentary elections in the republic. Ion Ceban, the mayor of Chisinau and leader of the National Alternative Movement party, told Izvestia on September 28, commenting on the election race.

"The current election campaign was unprecedentedly dirty. There are a lot of poisons, a lot of hatred, a lot of divisions of people into their own and others, divisions according to how people think, how they speak, what language they speak, what nationality they are," he said.

Cheban stressed that the main task of the future leadership is to unite society and develop the state. He noted that his party pays special attention to protecting votes both in Moldova and abroad, where observers and representatives work at almost all polling stations.

The politician added that there were no real discussions about pensions, salaries, tariffs and the development of social infrastructure in the campaign. Instead, the electoral process turned into a large-scale information campaign of disinformation and sowing of hatred.

"Unfortunately, this whole election campaign has turned into a big information campaign of disinformation, division of people and spreading hatred, which should not be allowed," concluded the mayor.

Earlier in the day, political analyst Alexei Yaroshenko said that the parliamentary elections in Moldova cannot be transparent due to the exclusion of the republic's opposition and observers, including foreign ones. He noted that the current government uses the tools available to it to retain power and falsify elections in the country.

Parliamentary elections began in Moldova on September 28. Polling stations in the territory of the state opened at 07:00 a.m. and will close at 21:00. Thus, 301 polling stations will operate outside the country in order to give citizens abroad the opportunity to vote. The total circulation of the ballots was 864.3 thousand copies. At the same time, the elections were held, as the turnout exceeded 33%.
