The deployment of the US air force and naval forces in the Caribbean is underway, which could lead to the outbreak of conflict. This was stated on September 27 by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, speaking at the general debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

"There is a threat of conflict in the Caribbean Sea today, as the deployment of the US air force and naval forces is taking place there, which is completely unjustified, with missiles, amphibious landings, as well as with nuclear submarines," he said.

According to the minister, no one in the hall of the UN General Assembly believes in Washington's pretext that the deployment is necessary to combat drug trafficking.

According to Parrilla, Cuba rejects any attempts at militarization, interference and imperialist domination in the Latin American and Caribbean region.

On September 20, Reuters reported that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro offered to hold direct talks with US President Donald Trump's special envoy Richard Grenell on the situation with the strikes by American forces on ships allegedly involved in drug trafficking.
