A meeting was held in McAllen, Texas between representatives of the U.S. and Mexican security Cabinets, during which it was announced the creation of a joint initiative to combat the illegal proliferation of weapons. This was announced on September 27 by the press service of the Mexican Foreign Ministry.

"The launch of the Firewall Mission: a Joint Initiative against Illegal Firearms Trafficking was announced, which aims to stop the illegal flow of weapons on the common border," the report says.

It is specified that during the discussion, the delegations promoted cooperation in various fields. The following initiatives were proposed: information exchange between customs authorities and increased training of security personnel from both countries to strengthen their capacity to counter criminal organizations.

On September 20, Reuters reported that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro offered to hold direct talks with US President Donald Trump's special envoy Richard Grenell on the situation with the strikes by American forces on ships allegedly involved in drug trafficking.
