Thousands of demonstrators marched through the central streets of Rome as a sign of disagreement with the policies of the European Union (EU). This was reported by RIA Novosti on September 27.

Italians filling the central square of the city held in their hands the national flags of their state and banners calling for the resignation of the current head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen. It was clarified that along with the flags of Italy, the Russian tricolor was also seen. People moving through the previously blocked streets shouted "Uruslua, get out!"

"We demand the exit (of Italy.— Ed.) from the European Union. He has only done Italy harm...> Fishing, agriculture, electricity supply, ecology, restrictions on freedoms, and today there are conflicts. We do not want to rearm," Marco Rizzo, one of the leaders of the Sovereign and People's Democracy party, said before the start of the march.

According to him, the EU is his country's "stepmother", which should be distanced from in order not to take part in the "staging" of the conflict based on "manipulation and lies" being prepared by Brussels.

Russian Ambassador to Italy Alexei Paramonov, in an interview with Izvestia on August 4, pointed to Rome's "relentless" attempts to prove its loyalty to NATO, although the country's population does not see the need for this. He noted that Italian citizens have "more sober" views on many issues, including financing and allocation of the state budget by economic sectors.
