Russia considers unacceptable and illegal the West's attempts to restore sanctions against Iran in the UN Security Council. This was stated on September 27 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the general political discussion of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

"Yesterday, at the Security Council, the West rejected the rational proposal by China and Russia to extend the 2015 agreement on the Iranian nuclear program to allow time for diplomacy. This definitively exposed the West's policy of sabotaging the search for constructive solutions in the UN Security Council and its desire to seek unilateral concessions from Tehran through blackmail and pressure. We consider such a policy unacceptable," he said.
