- The President of the PKR expressed hope for the lifting of the remaining sanctions against the athletes of the Russian Federation
Pavel Rozhkov, President of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC), expressed hope in an interview with Izvestia on September 27 that the Paralympic Committee would begin making decisions related to the lifting of sanctions against Russian athletes.
According to him, earlier that day, Russian athletes were allowed to compete at both the summer and winter Paralympic Games with all state attributes, including the flag, anthem, and appropriate sports uniforms. In addition, Russians will be able to participate in the world championships in five sports — swimming, athletics, powerlifting, bullet shooting and sledge hockey. They were also allowed to perform with all the attributes.
"We have a very complex international management structure. About a dozen sports are managed by international Olympic federations. About a dozen are in international Paralympic federations," Rozhkov said.
Earlier that day, the RPC was able to achieve reinstatement of its membership rights in the IPC. Thanks to this, Russians will participate in the Paralympic Games with the flag, anthem and other attributes of Russia. These sports include athletics, swimming, powerlifting, sledge hockey, and bullet shooting. At the same time, the IPC fully restored the membership rights of the Belarusian Paralympic Committee.
According to sports commentator Dmitry Guberniev, this IPC decision will open up new opportunities for other sports. He noted that the initiative will be able to "use a locomotive to drag many other sports from the siding to the main highway."
