The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has fired employees who knelt at protests in Washington after the death of African-American George Floyd. This was reported on September 27 by the Associated Press (AP).
"The FBI fired agents who were photographed kneeling during a protest for racial justice in Washington, which took place after the death of George Floyd," the article says.
According to the agency's source, the FBI initially reassigned a number of employees to other positions, but then dismissed them. According to preliminary information, the bureau has dismissed about 20 agents.
Former police officer Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison for the murder of George Floyd in 2020. During his last words before the verdict, ex-policeman Shovin expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased Floyd, but did not apologize. On August 8, Shovin was additionally sentenced to 20 years in prison for violating the victim's civil rights.
