- Guberniev appreciated the decision of the IPC on the membership of the Russian Federation for the development of other sports
The decision of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to fully restore the membership of the Russian Paralympic Committee will attract the whole world and open up new opportunities for other sports. This was announced on September 27 by sports commentator Dmitry Guberniev.
"It was brewing. The ice broke. <… > It is important. But the most important thing is that our dear and beloved Paralympians with unlimited possibilities will perform with a flag and an anthem. This is joy and happiness," he stressed.
According to the commentator, this decision can "drag a locomotive from the siding to the main highway and into many other sports."
In addition, Mikhail Terentyev, chairman of the All-Russian Society of the Disabled, champion of the Paralympic Games, called the IPC's decision an important step that indicates a gradual change in the position of the global sports community.
"Of course, it is a success for both the Paralympic Committee and our president in general that most countries have approved the restoration of all attributes of national team participation," he said.
However, Terentyev recalled that the final restoration of membership rights also depends on the international federations for individual sports. According to him, this could become a precedent for Russia's restoration in the Olympic movement.
Earlier that day, the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) secured reinstatement of its IPC membership rights. This way, Russians will be able to participate in the Paralympic Games with the flag, anthem and other attributes of Russia. These sports include athletics, swimming, powerlifting, sledge hockey, and bullet shooting. At the same time, the IPC fully restored the membership rights of the Belarusian Paralympic Committee.
At the same time, Svetlana Zhurova, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, called this initiative a big step forward for Russian athletes.
