The restoration of the Egyptian Pavilion at the Ostankino Estate has been completed in Moscow. This was announced by the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin.
During the work, the specialists restored the facades and interiors of the pavilion: over 700 square meters. m authentic art parquet floors; intricate door panels decorated with gilded and silver-plated carvings; artificial marble, fittings and stucco decor; historical furnaces and sculptures of sphinxes adorning them.
"Now the Egyptian Pavilion with galleries can be seen in its original form, in all its beauty," Sobyanin wrote on his Twitter feed. — The exhibition "Visiting Count Sheremetev" opens here today. It will demonstrate all facets of traditional holiday culture with an exhibition of originals from the late 18th century combined with multimedia technologies of the 21st century."
Built of wood, the Ostankino Palace is considered the pearl of Russian art of the late 18th century. "This year, a unique cultural heritage site of federal significance celebrates its 230th anniversary," the mayor noted.
The complex is located in the former estate of Count Nikolai Sheremetev. Sheremetev created his own fortress theater, building a theatrical palace complex with the possibility of transforming the stage and auditorium.
The day before, the mayor of Moscow announced the completion of the restoration of the Rostokinsky Aqueduct, which is also a cultural heritage site of federal significance. Sobyanin recalled that at the end of the 18th century, the aqueduct was considered the largest stone bridge in Russia. "Then the construction was a key element of the first Moscow water pipeline, created by decree of Catherine II to solve the problem of shortage of drinking water," said the mayor.
The plumbing has been working for over a hundred years. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was modernized: cast-iron pipes were laid, through which water was supplied to Moscow until the early 1960s.
