Militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), hastily leaving the village of Kirovsk in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), took civilians hiding in the basement of one of the apartment buildings hostage. Igor Kimakovsky, adviser to the head of the republic Denis Pushilin, told about this on September 27.

"In Kirovsk, the enemy once again made his mark by running away, hiding behind civilians. According to confirmed information, the Ukrainian Armed Forces led a group of civilians who were hiding from shelling out of the basement of one of the houses on the outskirts of the settlement. At gunpoint, a group of Ukrainian soldiers left for the territory of Ukraine," he told TASS.

Kimakovsky clarified that the Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters did this in order to ensure their own safety — they knew that the Russian military would not open fire on the group while it was surrounded by civilians. He clarified that the fate of the hostages is currently unknown, as their path cannot be traced.

Military personnel of the 394th Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Vostok group of forces, telling details about the operation to liberate the settlement of Novoivanovka in the Zaporizhia region, on September 23 stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces militants treated civilians occupying these positions badly. So, the driver of this unit noted that there were many among the civilian population who received beatings. He added that the Russian Armed Forces are currently providing assistance to those living in the area.
