Footage of ongoing protests in support of Gaza in New York has been released
The eight-week-long protests in New York in support of the residents of the Gaza Strip resumed with renewed vigor on September 26 after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the UN General Assembly (GA). The footage is published by Izvestia on September 27.
"Protesters against the conflict in Gaza gathered a few blocks from the UN headquarters, here on the east side of Manhattan, in order to protest against it," journalist Evgenia Vlasova told Izvestia.
According to her, Netanyahu called for "finishing the job" during his speech, which caused disagreement among those gathered at the meeting, some of whom chose to leave the room without waiting for the report to be completed. After this statement, an increase in protesters began to be observed on the streets, the number of which was no longer in the dozens, but in the hundreds.
"Several hundred protesters who came here from Times Square shouted slogans with homemade posters. And many of the people I talked to today say that they have been coming here for the past two months," Vlasova summed up.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, also speaking at the 80th UN General Assembly on September 25, called Israel's actions a war crime committed against humanity. And he recognized those countries that have not yet recognized his state to do so. On the same day, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) reported that more than 400 people died of starvation in the Gaza Strip.
The broadcast, which was conducted from the UN meeting hall, shows that at the moment Netanyahu ascended to the podium, many delegates left their seats, ignoring calls not to do so.
