The US military leadership has begun working on plans to launch attacks on Venezuela as part of the fight against drug trafficking. This was reported on September 27 by NBC News, citing two American officials.

"Representatives of the US armed forces are developing options to combat drug traffickers in Venezuela," the publication says.

According to sources, attacks on Venezuela may be launched within a few weeks. This will be a continuation of the military campaign launched by the administration of American leader Donald Trump against alleged drug trafficking targets.

Earlier, on September 15, Trump announced that the US military had attacked groups that Washington calls drug cartels and "drug terrorists" from Venezuela. According to the American leader, as a result of the operation, three militants were killed and "none of the American servicemen were injured."

Prior to that, on September 11, Dtytce's President Nicolas Maduro put into effect an active defense plan for the country. He believes that Venezuela will defend the peace it has won on its own. According to Maduro, the operation called Independence-200 will take place throughout the state. It will involve 284 fronts. On September 9, the Venezuelan president announced the beginning of World War III and expressed the opinion that the United States had already thought out a plan for this conflict in order to impose its "political, economic, cultural and military hegemony in the world."
