Orban called the abandonment of Russian energy resources a disaster for Hungary
Hungary's economy will "be on its knees" if Budapest abandons Russian energy supplies. This was announced on September 26 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban during a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump.
"I told President Trump that if Hungary loses Russian oil and natural gas, the country's economic performance will immediately decrease by 4%...> Thus, the Hungarian economy would be on its knees," the Associated Press (AP) agency quoted the Hungarian Prime minister as saying.
According to Orban, abandoning Russian energy resources would be a disaster for Hungary. The Prime Minister also stressed that Budapest will independently make decisions regarding oil imports from the Russian Federation.
The day before, Trump said that he understands the difficulty of completely abandoning Russian oil for Hungary and Slovakia.
Vladimir Demidov, an independent expert on the resources and energy market, told Izvestia on September 25 that Hungary and Slovakia will face serious challenges after the European Commission (EC) imposes customs duties on oil from Russia, since more than 30% of their supplies come from this country.
