- The Kremlin pointed to the expectation of a US reaction to the Russian proposal on the DNC
This week, Russia is waiting for the reaction of US President Donald Trump to the proposal of Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (START Treaty). This was announced on September 26 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"We will be waiting for weeks," he told VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin, the video clip was published on the correspondent's Telegram channel.
According to Peskov, the last few days have been quite difficult for Trump, but he expressed confidence that the American leader would independently respond to this initiative later.
At the same time, the Kremlin's official representative clarified that so far there had been no reactions from the President of the United States through closed channels.
The day before, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) approved Russia's proposal for the START Treaty. The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, also expressed the hope that the agency would see positive changes on this issue.
On September 22, the Russian leader announced the readiness of the Russian Federation to adhere to the restrictions in accordance with the START Treaty for another year after February 5, 2026. He added that the measure would become viable provided that the United States did not take steps that would undermine the balance of deterrence capabilities.
