Germany pointed to UN plans to impose sanctions against Iran
The United Nations (UN) is going to impose broader sanctions against Iran after inconclusive negotiations on the nuclear program. This was stated on September 26 by German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefuhl in a comment to Bloomberg.
"We have offered many opportunities to reach a new solution through negotiations, but they (the Iranian authorities. — Ed.) They didn't take advantage of it. Sanctions will be imposed," Vadefoul said.
The publication recalls that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi held meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York with diplomats from Britain, France and Germany. The parties were trying to find options for an agreement that would avoid sanctions and "prevent a new crisis in the long-standing dispute over Iran's nuclear ambitions," the article says.
Officials of the Islamic Republic said they could not resume negotiations with the United States while the threat of new military strikes remained.
On the same day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking at the UN General Assembly, said that all Iran's enriched uranium reserves should be destroyed. According to him, the IDF has already caused significant damage to Iran's nuclear program. However, Netanyahu stressed that it is necessary to remain vigilant.
On September 23, US President Donald Trump declared that Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons. The American leader added that from the very beginning of his presidential term he had advocated the suspension of Iran's nuclear program.
