The State Duma assessed the plans for withdrawal from the OSCE/ODIHR
Russia is currently being prevented from influencing the processes in Europe, which necessitates a discussion of the country's participation in the activities of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE/ODIHR). Dmitry Novikov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, expressed this opinion on Friday, September 26.
"In my opinion, a discussion would really be very useful. <...> A number of countries are involved in some agreements and arrangements, which means that these countries should not only have a common approach, which in itself requires joint activities, not sanctions, pressure and everything else, but this process should be mutual," the MP said in an interview. with Lenta.Ru .
He added that today any joint activity with Russia causes hysteria in a number of European countries.
"That is, even when there is no interference or communication, there is a suspicion of Russian influence, a trace, and so on. In this case, we are dealing with the fact that this is just Russia's opportunity to influence," Novikov said, adding that no one in Europe is ready for this.
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he would discuss with the Russian Foreign Ministry and parliament the need for the country's participation in the activities of the OSCE/ODIHR, RT reports.
The head of state commented on the concerns of the chairman of the Central Election Commission of Russia, Ella Pamfilova, about the futility of the ODIHR's work in the context of election observation and respect for the rights of journalists, according to the website. kp.ru . She drew attention to the OSCE/ODIHR's refusal to allow Russian observers to participate in the elections in Moldova, despite the fact that the Russian Federation is a member of this organization and sent its observers to participate.
On September 24, the Russian Foreign Ministry protested to the Moldovan ambassador over the refusal of observers in the OSCE mission. It was noted that these actions by the Moldovan authorities are a gross violation of international obligations and incompatible with the democratic values that the Moldovan leadership claims.
On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Chisinau's decision not to accredit Russian observers from the OSCE/ODIHR was politically motivated.
