- The Russian Ambassador called the transfer of polling stations in Transnistria unprecedented.
The measures taken by the Central Election Commission of the republic at the last moment to move polling stations for residents of Transnistria deep into Moldova are unprecedented. This was announced on September 26 by the Russian Ambassador to Chisinau Oleg Ozerov.
"These are unprecedented actions. I have never heard that a couple of days before the vote, the rules of the game were changed, <...> the places for voting were moved," the diplomat said in a comment to the First in Moldova portal.
He noted that the objective interest of the authorities should be for citizens to participate in the elections as fully as possible, and not to reduce the number of polling stations from 44 to 12.
"This introduces uncertainty. Not all people can know and get information about where these sites have been moved, especially if we are talking about the elderly," Ozerov said in the Telegram channel of the publication.
On September 24, the Russian Foreign Ministry protested to the Moldovan ambassador over the refusal of observers in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE/ODIHR) mission. It is noted that these actions by the Moldovan authorities are a gross violation of international obligations and incompatible with the democratic values that the Moldovan leadership claims.
