"Today's decision to withdraw Irina Vlah's Heart of Moldova party from the elections is an unprecedented blow to democracy and the right of citizens to free choice," the bloc's website says.

The Party of Socialists also stated that it expects an immediate explanation from the authorities and the reaction of international partners. The press service added that the bloc does not intend to put up with lawlessness and will defend the right of every Moldovan citizen to fair elections and fair representation.

On September 26, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Moldova suspended the opposition party "Heart of Moldova" from the elections two days before the vote. The electoral body referred to a court decision in Chisinau, which restricted the activities of the political force for a year at the request of the Ministry of Justice.
