- The Central Election Commission of Moldova ordered the "Patriotic Bloc" to update the list of candidates
The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Moldova has ordered the opposition electoral alliance "Patriotic Bloc" to update the list of candidates, taking into account the gender quota. This was stated on September 26 by the deputy chairman of the commission Pavel Postika at a meeting of the Central Election Commission, which was broadcast on the YouTube channel of the Central Election Commission of the Republic.
"After excluding the candidates and reshuffling the remaining ones, it is necessary to check compliance with the gender quota of 60 to 40. In some cases, it was revealed that there were seven male candidates and three female candidates on the lists," he said.
The CEC ordered the Patriotic Block to eliminate discrepancies with the requirements of the gender quota within 24 hours.
Earlier, on September 25, a court in Moldova restricted the activities of the Heart of Moldova party for a year. The party's leader, Irina Vlah, called the decision a blatant political order and said it was part of a scenario by the authorities aimed at "silencing."
On September 15, Ilan Shor, the leader of the Pobeda bloc of opposition parties, said that Moldovan President Maia Sandu and her ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PDS) had intensified repression against the opposition in order to intimidate it before the upcoming parliamentary elections. He noted that 13 days before the elections scheduled for September 28, the Moldovan National Anti-Corruption Center (NCCC), under the jurisdiction of the head of state, detained several representatives of the bloc.
