Residents of the Slantsevsky district of the Leningrad region, who died after drinking surrogate alcohol, have been buying alcohol from the suspect for many years. This was reported to Izvestia on September 26 by a source familiar with the situation.

"They knew this man for a long time. Alcohol was bought from him for at least 15 years," the source said.

According to him, this is not the first time that locals have faced the consequences of poisoning with a surrogate: seven years ago, an elderly woman's legs failed after drinking alcohol purchased at the same point. On September 25, her 42-year-old grandson was found dead in his apartment after drinking alcohol purchased from the same seller.

On the day of sentencing, the Cabinet approved amendments to the draft law on the destruction of counterfeit methanol.

On the same day, it was reported that the death toll from alcohol poisoning increased to 12. The accused Nikolay Boytsov, who lives in the village of Gostitsy, sold low-quality alcoholic beverages to his fellow villagers, producing them in his apartment. It was clarified that his accomplice Olga Stepanova, who supplied alcohol for further bottling and sale, works in a kindergarten.

During a search of Boytsov's apartment, empty glass bottles and plastic cans with a volume of up to 10 liters with a characteristic odor of alcohol-containing liquid were found.
