The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow has sent into custody the former vice-rector of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) Angela Dolzhikova, suspected of embezzlement of budget funds. This was reported to Izvestia by the court's press service on September 26.

"Before that, she had a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions," the court clarified.

The ex-vice-rector is suspected of fraud (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the Interior Ministry, the theft amounted to over 1 million rubles, allocated as a grant by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.

According to investigators, Dolzhikova ensured the signing of an agreement between Rudn University and the Ministry of Education and Science to receive a grant for the development of Russian language learning programs. After receiving the subsidies, the university concluded fictitious contracts with controlled legal entities and individual entrepreneurs. More than 1 million rubles were transferred to their accounts as payment for work that was actually performed by staff members of the RUDN University, who were subordinate to Dolzhikova. As a result, budget funds were cashed out and stolen.

The official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry, Irina Volk, announced Dolzhikova's detention in November last year. The suspect and other people allegedly involved in the theft were searched. Law enforcement officers continue to investigate all the circumstances of the crime. The investigation of the criminal case is ongoing.
