- The US President announced the introduction of tariffs on foreign heavy trucks from October 1.
The import of trucks to the United States that were not produced in the United States, starting from October 1, 2025, will be subject to duties in the United States in the amount of 25%. This was announced on September 25 by the head of the White House, Donald Trump.
"To protect our great heavy truck manufacturers from unfair external competition, starting October 1, 2025, I will introduce a 25% tariff on all 'heavy (large) trucks' manufactured in other parts of the world," he said in a message posted on the TruthSocial social network.
According to the content of the publication, this measure will be aimed at protecting all American truck manufacturers, in particular such as Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Mack Trucks. This, as Trump emphasized, will make representatives of these companies more financially stable, as well as contribute to ensuring national security.
Evgeny Shatov, a partner at Capital Lab, told Izvestia on August 7 that the duties imposed by Trump in the amount of 15% to 41% could affect key sectors of the economy, including automobiles, electronics, pharmaceuticals and energy. In particular, the tariffs will have a detrimental impact on car exports from such countries as Germany and Canada, as well as electronics shipments from Taiwan and South Korea.
