- The State Duma appreciated the discussion in the EU on the seizure of frozen assets of the Russian Federation for Ukraine
Europe continues to try to take away Russia's frozen assets, but this could destroy the system on which the economy is based. Alexey Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, expressed this opinion on Friday, September 25.
"They have been doing this for three and a half years on a regular basis. They do not remove from the agenda the hope of finding some acceptable solution for them, but they understand that this is a big risk. I want to steal, but it stings, and the consequences of this can be very big," the deputy said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
The parliamentarian added that Europe is gradually taking away certain percentages of Russian frozen assets.
Earlier in the day, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz offered to provide Ukraine with an interest-free loan in the amount of about 140 billion euros, NSN reports. According to him, financing can be provided at the expense of assets of the Central Bank of Russia frozen in Europe.
In turn, Michael Clauss, advisor to the German Chancellor for European Affairs, said that the German authorities are ready to consider a proposal to transfer frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, IA Regnum reports.
According to him, we are talking about new and supposedly legally legitimate options. It is noted that in connection with the intention to involve up to €172 billion, Berlin is putting pressure on other European Union (EU) countries to enlist their support during the upcoming details discussion in Copenhagen in October, according to the website. kp.ru .
On August 30, the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, acknowledged the lack of funds from the European Union to finance Ukraine. At the same time, she stated that there was no consensus among EU countries on the use of frozen assets of the Russian Federation for Ukraine, RT reports.
