In the United States, the North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) took fighter jets into the sky after allegedly detecting Russian aircraft in international airspace over Alaska. This was reported by Newsweek magazine on September 25, citing a statement from NORAD.
The North American Air Defense Command noted that the planes did not violate the airspace of the United States and Canada.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) had made a scheduled flight over the neutral waters of the Bering and Okhotsk Seas. It was noted that at some stages of the route, the missile carriers were accompanied by fighters from foreign countries. The ministry stressed that Russian long-range aviation flights are conducted in full compliance with international rules for the use of airspace.
