Stockholm Marathon winner Ševarge Alene has died at the age of 30.
Ethiopian runner Shevarge Alene, who won the Stockholm Marathon in 2025, has died at the age of 30. This was announced on September 25 by the marathon's press service.
"It is with deep sadness that we have received the news of the death of Ševarge Alene, the winner of the Stockholm Marathon in 2025," the press service wrote on Facebook (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
The athlete became ill during a training session in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Alyona was immediately taken to the hospital, but doctors could not save her, the publication says.
Earlier, on April 7, at the Movistar half Marathon in Madrid, two runners had cardiac arrest, one of them died. It was clarified that they had a cardiac arrest a few meters from the finish line.
