In the Sokhondinsky Nature Reserve (Zabaikalsky Krai), the population of the dzeren (goitered antelope) was recorded. A total of 11 527 individuals were counted, the press service of the organization reports.

The main part of the animals lives in the area from the village of Tyrin to Verkhny Ulkhun, writes the ChitaMedia news agency. At the time of monitoring, there was a large herd of 4,000 individuals that had moved to Russia from Mongolia.

Also, during the accounting, experts found other significant groups of antelopes. Thus, an accumulation of 2,170 dzerens was recorded near the Hongorun Lighthouse along the state border. Another 2,110 artiodactyls were identified in the villages of Mangut and Ulkhun-Partiya.

In addition to the dzerens, experts observed rare birds listed in the Red Book. Two bustards were spotted in the area of Lake Prigorichnoye, and four in the Shoichi Falls. In addition, a whooping swan and black storks were spotted.

Earlier it was reported that the mountain sheep (argali), which disappeared from the region more than 100-150 years ago, returned to Transbaikalia. The animals were spotted in several areas in the south of the region.
