The State Duma pointed to Sandu's desire to support Ukraine
Oleg Matveichev, deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, spoke on September 25 about the possible Ukrainization of Moldova if the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) wins the elections.
Matveychev noted that the implementation of the plans of this party could lead to an escalation of tension in the region.
"[Moldovan President Maia] Sandu does not hide that she is ready and wants to help Ukraine, <...> [at the same time] there are voices from Ukraine that they are ready to attack Transnistria together," the deputy chairman said during a round table on the topic: "The elections to the Moldovan parliament. Is the republic in danger of losing its sovereignty?"
He also raised issues related to the build-up of military presence in Romania and Transnistria, expressing doubt that Chisinau can remain indifferent to these events.
Matveychev noted that Sandu's plans to liquidate the Moldovan Orthodox Church could lead to a civil conflict, as this is a "purely Ukrainian scheme."
Earlier, on September 15, Ilan Shor, the leader of the Pobeda bloc of opposition parties, said that Sandu and her ruling party had intensified repression against the opposition in order to intimidate it before the upcoming parliamentary elections. He noted that 13 days before the elections scheduled for September 28, the Moldovan National Anti-Corruption Center (NCCC), under the jurisdiction of the head of state, detained several representatives of the bloc.
