The expert predicted economic growth exceeding expectations by the end of the year in the Russian Federation

Despite the state of the key interest rate, the growth of the Russian economy remains stable. There is no threat to financial stability in Russia. Maxim Chirkov, Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Measurements at GUU, told Izvestia about this on September 25.

"Even under conditions of ultra-rigid policy, there is economic growth, and it is quite significant. Therefore, we simply cannot expect any severe crisis manifestations of the financial system. Now there is a task to reduce inflation, so the key rate is not decreasing as fast as many would like," he said.

According to Chirkov, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation takes into account the current situation, problems and its main tasks. The Central Bank is looking for a balance so that there is no acceleration of inflation and economic growth, which is currently observed in Russia, does not sink. The expert noted that economic growth in the Russian Federation is much higher than in the European Union (EU) countries, for example.

"In general, the situation is under maximum control, and moreover, with the current policy of the Central Bank and other instruments that reduce inflation. In general, the trajectory of inflation reduction is much better than it was when planning," the expert said.

He also noted that the Russian economy is the fourth largest economy in the world. According to Chirkov, it is growing even with the high key interest rate that was observed in the country a few months ago.

"In terms of economic growth at the end of even 2025, I think we will see better figures than many expect," the expert predicts.

Earlier in the day, the head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, announced the risks of a rapid reduction in the key rate. According to her, this may lead to an acceleration of inflation.
