Grossi pointed out the IAEA's concern about the situation at the Zaporizhia NPP.
The situation at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) continues to worry, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) monitors it daily. This was announced on September 25 by the head of the agency, Rafael Grossi, on the sidelines of the opening of the World Atomic Week forum.
"We are concerned about the situation, we monitor it daily," Interfax quoted him as saying.
Grossi stressed that he intends to discuss the current situation with both the Russian and Ukrainian sides. In addition, the head of the IAEA called for all possible efforts to prevent nuclear incidents.
"This is very important for everyone," he concluded.
Earlier, on September 23, the NPP was disconnected from the last external power supply line that supplied it. It was later reported that this happened as a result of a strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The station is powered by backup diesel generators to ensure safety.
Yevgenia Yashina, Director of Communications at the station, said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces began shelling the area of the nuclear power plant and the satellite city of Energodar on a daily basis. She noted that the situation at the NPP, which is associated with the transition to the operation of backup diesel generators, does not go beyond the design assumptions.
Later, on September 24, the Governor of the Zaporizhia region, Yevgeny Balitsky, reported that the IAEA was demonstrating amazing passivity and refused to give a principled assessment of Kiev's actions after the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attack on the nuclear power plant.
