The head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, must take the appropriate consequences due to her secret text messages with French President Emmanuel Macron, but most likely she will not face them. Gunnar Lindemann, a member of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, told Izvestia on September 25.

The politician noted that any official who disclosed or made public classified information through a publicly available service would be removed from office, after which he would face disciplinary or criminal consequences.

"Apparently, in the EU (EU. — Ed.) there are double standards regarding the use of messengers. If the President of the European Commission, von der Leyen, uses a publicly available messenger, and as a result secret information becomes publicly available, this will not be prosecuted in the future," he said.

According to Lindemann, this approach is wrong, and officials, including von der Leyen, should take appropriate consequences, in particular when sharing confidential information.

On the same day, Hungarian MEP Kinga Gal announced that a scandal had broken out around von der Leyen over her secret text messages with French President Emmanuel Macron. She noted that these messages disappeared, as was the case with the Pfizer scandal, when von der Leyen conducted a dialogue on the purchase of vaccines for the entire European Union (EU). Gal stressed that the incident once again confirms the non-transparency of the European Commission's activities. In this regard, she stated the need for transparency in the work of EU institutions.
