About 700 events were held in Moscow from June 1 to September 14 as part of the Book in the City project, Deputy Mayor Natalia Sergunina said. Summer libraries operated on Theater Square, Pushkin Square and Sretensky Boulevard.

The cultural project brought together readers of different generations, its audience exceeded 600 thousand people, the deputy mayor noted. "The program includes meetings with writers and poets, presentations of new publications, lectures and creative workshops. More than 120 theater and film stars, famous musicians and athletes took part in the literary readings," Sergunina said.

The reciters were two-time Olympic medalist Irina Slutskaya, composer and performer Leonid Ovrutsky, People's Artists of Russia Vladimir Steklov, Alexander Oleshko and Irina Pegova. In the evenings, they read excerpts from their favorite books at the project sites and chatted with visitors.

The morning hours in the reading rooms were devoted to children's and family activities. The children got acquainted with new fairy tales and adventure stories, talked with the authors and made themed crafts.

Also, within the framework of the project, it was possible to take part in walking tours, the total length of which was about 40 km. On one of the walks, the audience was told about the ancient streets of Moscow, and on the other — interesting facts about the fountains of the capital.
