Trump demanded that the UN investigate the "sabotage" at the General Assembly
On September 25, US President Donald Trump demanded that the United Nations (UN) investigate the "triple sabotage" that occurred during his visit to the organization's headquarters.
"There was a real disgrace at the United Nations yesterday — not one, not two, but three sinister events," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
First, the American leader mentioned the incident with a broken escalator, which caused him and his wife Melania to almost fall "face down on the sharp edges of the steel steps." Trump further complained about the breakdown of the teleprompter during his speech and the disappearance of sound during the speech.
"They should be ashamed. I am sending a copy of this letter to the Secretary General [Antonio Guterres] and I demand an immediate investigation," he added.
On September 23, Trump accused the United Nations of waste during a speech at the 80th session of the General Assembly. The US President shared the story of how many years ago he participated in a tender for the reconstruction of the UN building complex, but the project turned out to be a failure. In addition, he stated that the two things he managed to get from the organization were a broken escalator and a broken teleprompter.
Later, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said that the United States had called on the United Nations to investigate the shutdown of the escalator while Trump was on it.
