- Slovakia asked the EC not to include it in the plan to abandon gas from the Russian Federation
Slovakia has called on the European Commission (EC) not to include it in the plan to stop importing Russian gas and carbon. This was announced on September 24 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Juraj Blanar.
"We were very clear when it came to the issue of the EU's refusal of energy supplies from Russia. <...> We said: <...> let's make an exception and continue (to buy raw materials. — Editor's note) for a certain time," RIA Novosti quotes the content of his comment made after a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Blanard stressed that his state would lose over €10 billion in the event of abandoning Russian gas, and would also face a lawsuit from Gazprom.
The meeting between Lavrov and Blanard took place earlier in the day. According to its results, the head of the Slovak Foreign Ministry concluded that Russia has successfully adapted to the sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU) against it. He also stressed that his country has no viable alternative to Russian fossil fuel sources.
