Hungary plans to continue energy cooperation with the Russian side, and Moscow will remain Budapest's energy supplier. This was announced on September 24 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto after a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"We respect the important role that Russia plays in our energy supplies. Obviously, we intend to continue cooperation on this issue," he said.

In addition, Szijjarto added that at the moment, Hungary's national interest lies in the ability to guarantee safe energy supplies to the country. He added that this is impossible without Russian oil and gas.

Szijjarto announced on September 23 that Hungary would not abandon Russian energy supplies, despite demands from the United States. He noted that the country can purchase energy resources only where the infrastructure is present.
