Slovakia does not have a reasonable and financially viable alternative to Russian fossil fuel sources. This was stated on September 24 by Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar after a meeting at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to RIA Novosti journalists.

"Slovakia has been building energy infrastructure for decades in its history. We have no other options (except Russian gas and oil. — Ed.), which would be sustainable and at reasonable prices," said Blanard.

The Slovak ministry added that the country could lose €10 billion if it stops supplying Russian gas and faces a lawsuit from Gazprom.

Earlier, on September 20, Bloomberg reported on the plans of the European Union (EU) countries to impose restrictions on the import of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline, which supplies Hungary and Slovakia. It is noted that in this case, the European Union will fulfill the main requirement of US President Donald Trump, which he imposes on the bloc as a condition so that Washington can once again join its allies in imposing restrictions against Russia.
