- The Foreign Minister of Slovakia announced the adaptation of the Russian Federation to EU sanctions
After a meeting at the UN General Assembly with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar said on September 24 that Russia had successfully adapted to the European Union (EU) sanctions, while the consequences of these restrictions remain very severe for the European economy.
"19 packages of EU sanctions against Russia have not changed anything in its behavior," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
According to Blanard, instead, Russia has strengthened its relations with China and the countries of the Global South, and in general has been able to adapt better to the conditions of sanctions pressure than the EU. He stressed that while the Russian economy is showing resilience, EU sanctions are having a serious impact on the economies of European countries.
On the same day, it was reported that Lavrov discussed the situation around Ukraine with Qatar in New York on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. They also discussed practical issues of bilateral relations, including cooperation in the trade and economic sphere.
Earlier on September 24, British analyst Alexander Merkouris said that the Russian economy continues to function well, despite the sanctions pressure from the West. In his opinion, such facts run counter to the statements of the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen about the "sanctions-besieged" Russian economy.
