- The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation has brought to justice more than 100 people for the rehabilitation of Nazism
The Russian Interior Ministry has prosecuted more than 100 citizens since the beginning of 2025 for repeatedly displaying banned Nazi symbols and rehabilitating Nazism. This was announced on September 24 by Sergey Pershenkov, First Deputy Head of the Main Directorate for Countering Extremism (Center "E") of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"Since the beginning of this year, more than 100 citizens have been criminalized for repeatedly demonstrating prohibited symbols and rehabilitating Nazism," he said during a meeting of the presidium of the Public Council under the Interior Ministry.
According to Pershenkov, acts related to the promotion of the ideas of Nazi Germany and neo-Nazism are being suppressed. Anatoly Kucherena, Chairman of the Council, also clarified that 13 crimes were registered during the specified period, they were related to art. 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Rehabilitation of Nazism"). As a result, 17 citizens were brought to justice.
Pershenkov stressed that the department's staff pays significant attention to countering associations that promote radical ideas. The judicial authorities have recognized 127 organizations as extremist and banned them, nine of them this year. According to the materials of the police officers, more than 700 criminal cases of extremist orientation were initiated.
The E Center records "massive external attempts to spread radical and marginal narratives in the Russian segment of the Internet, primarily among teenagers," Pershenkov said, adding that special attention is drawn to content aimed at inciting ethnic hatred and hostility, insulting objects of religious worship and the feelings of believers.
"Over the past three years alone, in cooperation with other government agencies, access to more than 180,000 materials justifying extremism and terrorism has been restricted," the department's representative concluded.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky said on September 23 that Russia was concerned about attempts by a number of states to officially exalt Nazi collaborators. According to him, these people are now positioned as national heroes, including those who participated in the Holocaust and the genocide of the peoples of the USSR.
