Russian MMA fighter Ivan Emelianenko intends to return to fighting after leaving prison. It is expected that the athlete will enter the ring this year. His lawyer Sergey Karpeev informed Izvestia about this on September 24.

"Indeed, Emelianenko has plans to return to the sport. He is already scheduled to participate in the tournament this year," said Karpeev.

Commenting on the court's decision, the human rights defender expressed confidence that Emelianenko would no longer violate the law.

"His punishment was a serious lesson for him. That's why I said that he completely rethought his attitude to life. He became more serious," the lawyer summed up.

On September 10, the Alekseevsky District Court of the Belgorod region granted Emelianenko's request for parole. The fighter will be released on September 25.

In December 2024, Emelianenko was sentenced to one and a half years in prison under the article on intentionally causing serious harm to health. In the spring of 2024, he got into a street conflict with a man who had insulted his family, and punched the offender in the face several times.
