Murashko noted the great development of ophthalmology in Russia

Ophthalmology has received significant development in Russia, and the Helmholtz National Medical Research Center (NMRC) is making a huge contribution to it. This was announced on September 24 by the Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko, speaking at the anniversary of the center, dedicated to the XVIII Russian National Ophthalmological Forum.

"Today, ophthalmology in our country has received great, serious development. <...> To date, 242 medical organizations provide high-tech assistance in this field," he drew attention.

Murashko also noted the success of telemedicine in this area. According to him, more than 7,000 telemedicine consultations are conducted annually in the country, and this year this indicator shows an increase, including related to the provision of assistance to the military in a special operation.

"Today, the Helmholtz National Research Center for Eye Diseases is also making a tremendous contribution. More than 200,000 outpatient consultations are provided annually. More than 18,000 patients receive inpatient medical care. Moreover, I would like to note that every fourth patient is a child. Over 20 years of operation, the center has consulted or operated on almost 3 million patients in total," the Minister of Health noted.

Murashko stressed that the center did not stay away from helping its participants. In particular, the NMIC helped the Hero of Russia, the chief physician of the Alyoshkin Hospital, Vladimir Harlan, who received a severe eye injury.

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the Helmholtz National Research Medical Center on its anniversary. The Russian leader noted that over the past years, the center, which has been in existence for 125 years, has significantly strengthened its potential and today is the leading in the field of ophthalmology in the country.
