Italy revived the national holiday in honor of Francis of Assisi
In Italy, it was proposed to establish a new annual day off in honor of the celebration of the day of the patron saint of Italy, Francis of Assisi. This was reported on September 24 by The Guardian.
"The far-right government of [the Prime Minister] Giorgi Meloni in Italy revived the national holiday in honor of the country's popular patron saint, Francis of Assisi," the article says.
The lower house of the Italian parliament has overwhelmingly approved a bill recognizing this day as a public holiday. It is expected that the weekend will be October 4, St. Francis Memorial Day, the newspaper reports.
According to the newspaper, St. Francis Day became a public holiday in Italy in 1958, during the post-war economic boom, but in 1977 it was excluded from the calendar due to "austerity measures."
The new French Prime Minister, Sebastien Lecorny, said he would not support the cancellation of Victory Day and Easter Monday celebrations in the republic. He indicated that he wanted to "spare" the workers and not deprive them of days off.
