Zelensky ignored the question of the best place to meet with Putin.
On September 24, President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky ignored a question from Izvestia correspondent Nikolai Ivanov about what might be the best place to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Izvestia's footage shows the Ukrainian leader walking up the stairs after arriving at the building hosting the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UN).
"This is the escalator that stopped in front of [American leader Donald] Trump. He's working now, but Zelensky decided not to take any chances and went up the stairs," Ivanov said.
On the eve of September 23, Zelensky announced his readiness to hold a meeting with Putin in Kazakhstan. He added that the Ukrainian side had proposed various meeting places — Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Austria and Switzerland. Asked about a possible meeting with the Russian president, Zelensky confirmed that he was ready for talks with Putin.
A day later, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that a meeting between Putin and Zelensky without proper preparation would be doomed to failure. According to him, holding such a meeting without prior preparation would be a PR campaign that would have no effect. Peskov also stressed that the Ukrainian side offered unacceptable options for negotiations between the leaders of the two countries, for example, Switzerland and Austria, which Russia does not consider as neutral countries.
