- The Russian Embassy in Vietnam has warned Russians about the approaching typhoon Ragasa
According to local authorities and meteorological services, due to the approach of typhoon Ragasa, heavy precipitation, squally winds and disruption of transport links in coastal areas remain likely, the Russian Embassy in Vietnam told Izvestia on September 24.
"In this regard, Russian citizens who are in areas of possible exposure to the elements are advised to exercise increased caution, refrain from traveling to coastal areas and strictly follow the instructions of local authorities," the diplomatic mission said.
The Embassy is closely monitoring the situation and is in constant contact with local authorities.
"In case of deterioration of the situation, Russian citizens will be informed immediately through the official website, social media pages and the hotline phone number. If necessary, the Embassy is ready to assist in ensuring security, including coordinating possible evacuation from risk areas together with the Vietnamese authorities," they added.
At the moment, landslides and huge waves are approaching the Chinese province of Guangdong and Vietnam. The typhoon has already paralyzed the financial center of Hong Kong, a number of islands in the Philippines and mountainous areas of Taiwan, killing 14 people there. Hong Kong and Macau have issued the highest level of storm warnings.
Earlier, on September 22, the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting (NCHMF) warned of the impending super typhoon Ragasa. At that time, it was clarified that the natural phenomenon would affect the Chinese provinces of Guangdong and Hainan, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China, as well as the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau, after which the disaster would move to the northern regions of Vietnam.
On September 24, it was reported that more than 120 people were missing and 34 injured as a result of flooding in eastern Taiwan caused by super typhoon Ragasa. The highest level of danger has been declared in some areas of Hualien County due to the threat of landslides.
