South Korean police have detained a man who made 58,307 false calls during the year, asking for help under false pretenses. This was reported on September 24 by the South Korean newspaper Hankyoreh.
It is noted that during the year, the police went to the scene of the alleged incidents 51 times, as these calls were classified as urgent. The man reported to the police about the theft of the refrigerator, plans to kill his brother, or that he was being forcibly detained.
In May of this year, the police issued a fine to a man for disorderly conduct, in response to which he made 1,882 calls to law enforcement agencies in 4 days. Earlier, in 2023, he was fined seven times for false calls, the article says.
According to the newspaper, a man between the ages of 50 and 60 was detained for obstructing a representative of the authorities. Later, he repented of what he had done and said that he had contacted the police on false grounds.
The man was released soon after, but the police were allowed to detain him again, this time for not showing up at the police station to conduct investigative actions. It is specified that the police plan to demand reimbursement of law enforcement agencies' expenses due to false appeals.
