- It became known about the consulate's readiness to hand over Avakian to Russian law enforcement officers.
Employees of the Armenian Consulate in St. Petersburg were ready to hand over Boris Avakian, an ex-official of the Federal Property Management Agency who escaped from court during the trial, to Russian law enforcement officers. This was reported on September 24 by the 78 TV channel.
"Boris Avakian's body was found after the Armenian consulate expressed its willingness to cooperate with Russian law enforcement authorities on the extradition of the ex-official," the Telegram channel said.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Avakian was found dead in the consulate building. It is noted that he went into the toilet and did not open the door. The staff of the diplomatic mission called the special services. After the rescuers opened the door, the ex-official was found unconscious.
Earlier, on September 23, Avakian escaped during a court hearing under the pretext of "going out for a smoke." It was reported that the accused had taken refuge in the Armenian Consulate. The ex-official is accused of evading customs duties in the amount of over 4.2 billion rubles.
