The Group of Seven countries discussed possible new anti-Russian sanctions
The G7 countries discussed possible new sanctions against Russia. This is stated in a joint statement following the meeting held on September 23 on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
"We discussed the introduction of additional economic sanctions against Russia, including measures against accomplices from third countries. We welcome the ongoing negotiations between the finance ministers of the G7 countries on the further use of Russian sovereign assets to support Ukraine," the statement said.
In addition, the participating countries expressed concern about recent events in Estonia, Poland and Romania.
European Commissioner for Economics Valdis Dombrovskis said on September 19 that the European Union (EU) was working on the technical details of providing loans to Ukraine based on frozen Russian assets. Dombrovskis added that EU member states are working to create a "legally and financially reliable instrument" that "can be scaled" at the G7 level.
