- The head of the Pentagon announced plans to monitor the situation with fighter jets in Estonia.
Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth, during a telephone conversation with Estonian Defense Minister Panno Pevkur, assured him that he would monitor the situation with the fighter in Estonia. This was announced on September 23 on the official website of the Pentagon.
"The head of the Pentagon assured the minister that <... He will continue to closely monitor the situation," the ministry said.
According to Hegseth, any invasion of the airspace of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) is unacceptable. He also added that he was in contact with the Commander-in-Chief of the NATO Joint Armed Forces in Europe, Alex Grinkevich, and was discussing further steps with him.
On September 19, the Estonian Foreign Ministry accused Russia of the fact that three MiG-31 fighter jets allegedly invaded the country's airspace. It is noted that the aircraft did not have a flight plan, the transponders were turned off, and there was no communication with the Estonian air traffic Service. According to their data, the fighters were in the air for a total of 12 minutes.
