- Onishchenko urged the Ministry of Health to study information about the dangers of paracetamol
The relationship between taking paracetamol during pregnancy and the development of autism in a child requires serious consideration. This was announced on September 23 by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Gennady Onishchenko.
"The connection between autism and taking paracetamol during pregnancy was made by Mr. [] Kennedy, the [US] Secretary of Health. He is a reasonable enough person in terms of personality integrity. In general, his views are traditional, but he is not a doctor. He refers to scientists, and despite the fact that I am not personally familiar with the specific data, his statement is not without meaning," Onishchenko told the information portal. Life.ru .
He noted that paracetamol can harm an adult body, which means it can also be dangerous for a developing fetus. Onishchenko added that it was too early to stop taking the medicine. To begin with, the World Health Organization (WHO) must give its assessment of the drug's safety.
Earlier, on September 22, it was reported that the US authorities intend to announce the effect of taking acetaminophen (paracetamol) during pregnancy on the risk of developing autism in children.
On September 23, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States Department of Health would inform that taking paracetamol during pregnancy increases the risk of developing autism in a child. In addition, the American leader urged all pregnant women not to take paracetamol except "if they are already on the verge of death," and also not to give it to children.
