Iran says it has no plans to obtain nuclear weapons
Tehran does not need nuclear weapons and sees no need to use them. This was announced on September 23 by Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, his statement was quoted by the Reuters news agency.
"[Khamenei] confirmed Tehran's long—standing official position that it does not need nuclear weapons and does not intend to produce them," the publication said.
According to him, negotiations with the United States will not benefit Iran at the moment and Tehran does not intend to succumb to external pressure on the issue of the right to enrich uranium.
On September 21, Iran suspended cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). It was reported that this decision was made due to the actions of European countries.
On September 23, US President Donald Trump declared that Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons. The American leader added that from the very beginning of his presidential term he had advocated the suspension of Iran's nuclear program. The Head of State also stressed that it is now necessary to stop the development of nuclear weapons in the world.
