On September 20, applications for the Prince Lev Sergeevich Golitsyn Award, the most prestigious award in Russia in the field of viticulture and winemaking, were accepted.

The award was established in 2024. It is awarded for achievements that move the industry forward: scientific research, vineyard development, production of high-quality wines, and high results in training. The award was first presented in 2024 at the Third Russian Wine Forum. In 2025, the award ceremony will be held for the second time.

"The award is becoming a true industry tradition. It not only celebrates the best works and achievements, but also inspires professionals to conduct new research, improve vineyards and create high-quality wines. This year we saw an expansion of the "geography" of applications – they came from most regions where viticulture is developing. This once again confirms the potential of the Russian wine school," said Dmitry Kiselyov, Chairman of the Board of the AVVR, CEO of MIA Rossiya Segodnya.

Interest in the Award is growing rapidly: the number of applications in 2025 turned out to be significantly higher than a year earlier. This clearly demonstrates how many talented and enthusiastic professionals work in Russian viticulture and winemaking, and how many researchers and practitioners strive to develop the industry and share their knowledge. Such figures confirm that the Award has become not just an award, but an important industry platform that helps identify and support the best specialists and innovative ideas.

Nominations and application statistics in 2025:

  • The first prize is "For the best essay on viticulture and winemaking."

17 applications have been received. Among the applicants are employees of the All–Russian Research Institute "Magarach", Don State University, Stavropol State University, the Institute of Natural and Technical Systems (Sevastopol), the All-Russian Research Institute of Brewing, Non-Alcoholic and Wine-Making Industries, the Yuzhnaya Agrofirm, Rosalokoltabakkontrol and the A. O. Kovalevsky Institute of Biology of the South Seas (Sevastopol).

  • II prize – "For the best vineyards".

28 vineyards from the wine-growing areas of Kuban, Crimea and the Don Valley were nominated.

  • III prize – "For the best table grapes".

3 applications were received from the wine-growing areas of Dagestan and Kuban.

  • The VIII Prize is awarded to the "Best graduate in the fields of viticulture and winemaking".

3 applications were submitted from graduates of the Russian Biotechnological University and the I. Trublin Kuban State Agrarian University.

"It is a pleasure to see such high interest in the Award. The number of applications in 2025 indicates that the Russian viticulture and winemaking industry is developing dynamically, and more and more real talents are appearing among specialists and researchers. The award helps them to be noticed and supported," Andrey Reut, First Deputy Director of the Roscongress Foundation, commented on the results of the bid campaign.

The winners in the nominations "For the best red wine", "For the best white wine", "For the best Russian Champagne" and "For the best fortified wine" will be determined based on the results of the AWB Cup. The winners will be the wines that have won the Grand Prix award in their category.

The names of the winners of the second Prize named after Prince L. S. Golitsyn will be announced at the fourth Russian Wine Forum, which will be held in Moscow on November 12-13, 2025. The award ceremony will be one of the key events of the forum, along with the award ceremony for the AWB Cup winners.
