Skipping school is always a signal of a child's internal problems, not just a whim. Parents often perceive such actions as a challenge or disobedience, which leads to punishment and confrontation. However, this approach ignores the true reason for what is happening. On September 27, a practicing psychologist, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, General Director of OOO "Together.ABOUT " Olesya Berezhnaya.

"Situational protest arises as an acute reaction to specific circumstances: conflict with classmates or a teacher, fear of failure on a test, a sense of injustice. It's a kind of cry for help in a stressful situation. The situation with deep-seated protest is much more complicated. He can be directed against the system as a whole or, even more seriously, against himself," the specialist said.

According to Berezhnaya, in order to understand the true reasons for absenteeism, it is important to start a conversation with a child not with accusations, but from the position of an ally. The child should feel support and understanding, not fear of punishment. It is necessary to create a space for a frank conversation where a minor can openly share his feelings. Only after the reason is clear can we look for a joint solution to the problem.

"The algorithm of conversation in case of suspicion of a deep protest should be gentle and consistent. First, it is worth stating the fact, without evaluation: "It became known to me that you were not at school on such and such a day." Then it is necessary to give an opportunity to speak out by asking open-ended questions: "Tell me what happened?", "How did you feel?", "What was it related to?". The main task is to listen and hear, making it clear that his experiences are important and are taken seriously," the psychologist explained.

If the absenteeism was caused by a situational protest, the expert added, it is enough to help the child cope with a specific problem, whether it is a conflict in the classroom or preparation for a test.

On September 18, Anna Avdeeva, a medical psychologist at the L.M. Roshal Children's Clinical Center, told how to protect a student from burnout. According to her, the main method of prevention is proper sleep patterns: younger students need to sleep 10-11 hours, middle school children need 9-10 hours, and high school students need 8-9 hours. During periods of stress, sleep should be increased, and first-graders benefit from daytime rest.
